The rim‑rolling machine for plate‑type engineering wheels is a specialized forming device that continuously bends and deforms flat steel sheets into wheel rims used in construction machinery, heavy‑duty trucks, and other vehicles. Serving as the “skeleton‑shaper” on the rim‑production line, its primary task is to transform a flat sheet into an almost perfectly round shape, thereby preparing it for subsequent welding operations.
Below are its core operating principles and structural features:
Core operating principle: Three-roll continuous bending
The vast majority of flat‑rim rolling machines operate on the three‑roller bending principle. You can think of it as a “metal roller mill”:
Structure: The equipment primarily consists of one drive roller (either the upper or lower roller) and two idler rollers (the lower roller or side rollers), arranged in a triangular configuration.
Action: The flat workpiece passes between the rollers, with the drive roller providing rotational power to propel the workpiece forward. Simultaneously, a hydraulic cylinder actuates the follower roller to press upward, applying a pressure to the sheet metal that exceeds its yield strength.
Molding: By precisely controlling the relative position and pressure of the rollers, the metal sheet undergoes continuous, progressive three-point bending, resulting in permanent plastic deformation and ultimately being rolled into the desired cylindrical shape.
