The rim planing and rolling unit is a specialized, integrated piece of equipment in the steel wheel rim manufacturing line. Positioned after the butt-welding process and before the rolling‑forming stage, it is used to treat the weld seams on the welded rim blanks. The equipment comprises three independent modules—the slag‑removal planer, the roll‑pressing machine, and the end‑cutting machine—and can be optionally equipped with a feeding mechanism to meet specific process requirements.
The slag-removal machine is the first operation in the production line, used to eliminate weld slag generated after rim welding and to produce a smooth weld surface.
The roller is used to flatten and strengthen the weld bead after grinding. Following rolling, the weld surface becomes flush with the base metal, while also enhancing the mechanical properties of the weld zone.
The end‑cutting machine is used to remove excess weld metal from both ends of the weld seam, ensuring uniform circumferential dimensions of the wheel rim.
Roll-forming is the primary forming process for rolled‑type wheel rims, demanding extremely high manufacturing precision; no air leakage is permitted during rolling and welding. Consequently, the three critical steps in weld‑seam treatment—planing, rolling, and cutting—are of paramount importance to the final product quality.
To enable fully automated in-line production, the unit can be equipped with an automatic rim loading and unloading system, facilitating automated material handling across multiple stations, including deburring, rolling, and end‑cutting.
In 2012, it was recognized as "Jilin Science and Technology Enterprise" by Jilin Science and Technology Department ". In November 2013, it became the cooperative education base of Changchun Institute of Technology.
